Remember Your Customers on Their Birthday
A simple way to pamper your customers is by celebrating their birthday. This can be as simple as sending them a birthday card or as elaborate as arranging a gift.
What you send your customers will depend on a number of things, including:
- the type of business you run
- how much money they spend with you
- where they are located
The type of business you run:
Sending birthday cards isn’t something that suits every business type. This is best suited to a business that has a personal relationship with their customers as well as a business one. This includes personal service type businesses as well as any online community.
Before deciding to collect your customers birthdays, work out whether this will help build a relationship with your customers, or is it something that will be more trouble than it’s worth.
The type of customer:
Most business coaches will tell you about A, B and C clients. Generally the A clients are the ones that spend the most money with you. If you have a lot of customers that don’t spend much with you, you may want to send them an ecard, rather than a card in the mail. If you have an A customer who is a raving fan and spends a lot of money with you, you may want to send them a gift to celebrate their birthday.
Where are they?
Depending on where you are in the world, it can be expensive to send something in the mail, so an ecard might be the best thing to send to people who are far away from you.
Conclusion:
Another thing to consider when sending something for a birthday celebration is what do you want out of sending a card, ecard or gift? Do you want them to simply have “warm fuzzy’s” from your business, or do you want them to come to your shop and buy something? This will have some bearing on what you send out. More on this next time.
