Happy 2nd Birthday to my blog…

Posted by: Business Mums | Comments (1)

2 years and counting...

2 years and counting...

Do you believe it’s been 2 years since I started this blog? OK, so it’s 2 years and 3 days, but who’s counting?

If you’re interested, here’s my first post on this blog.

Over the last 2 years, I’ve tried a lot of different things, different sorts of posts, and different topics.

It looks like we share an anniversary with Be A Fun Mum. To celebrate, they have shared 12 great blogging tips. Click here to check them out. There are some awesome tips there. I’m not sure I can add much.

One tip I could add is not to be afraid to try new things. These could be new sorts of posts, using guest bloggers, or even mixing things up a bit with pictures. Whatever you do, however, make sure you keep the theme of your blog in mind (for example, if you are blogging about owls, don’t suddenly add in a post about steam trains.)

For all our readers, thank you for reading and following this blog. I hope you’ve found the tips here useful.

If you have any other blogging tips you would like to add, either to the list on Be a Fun Mum or the one I added here, please add a comment. As it’s the birthday of this blog, there is a gift for the best blog tip.

Marketing MondayThere have been a number of promotion ideas I have posted about lately, including TEEs Me! Please, where you can buy a day to promote your business.

At the start of this year, we started the Business Mums Daily. This is a daily site, blog and Facebook fanpage that we promote on weekdays, excluding public holidays.

You can buy a day to be featured. You get a write up about your site, blog or fanpage, or you can provide the text yourself. It is then featured on our home page and the Business Mums Daily page on Facebook. The number of fans are growing and we are getting a band of loyal followers who visit the page regularly and check out the site, blog and fanpage we have featured for the day.

It doesn’t cost much to be featured, only $25 and your site, blog or fanpage remains on our site for 12 months.

Fanpage Fun - F.B.G.S

Posted by: Business Mums | Comments (0)

I discovered a new widget on Facebook today while writing a Friday Five report. So, just for fun, I thought I’d blog about some of the fan pages I’ve joined & add a fan button so you can follow them too.

The first one is a relatively new page called F.B.G.S, which stands for Facebook Garage Sale. Many WAHMs use their fan pages to have sales for their fans, this page brings all those sales together so you can get yourself a bargain. There have been quite a few garage sales so far, and they look great (pity I don’t need any baby items at the moment). I’m sure this page will take off as more people jump on the Facebook garage sale wagon and more and more products will be offered.

Saturday Site - Heather Monro

Posted by: Business Mums | Comments (1)

Heather MonroHeather Mono is the author of Peggy, a book about a washing line. She is an author, teacher and a Mum, so when she set about writing her first children’s book, she wrote with her audience in mind.

On her site, as Peggy, you can also read more about children and reading and how important reading is for children. While you’re there, read all about Peggy.

Peggy is a delightful story. The book is A4 with full colour illustrations and has an audio CD in the back so children can listen to the story and follow along. It makes a great book to listen to in the car on long trips too.

My 5 year old loves Peggy and is excited that he can now read it all by himself.

Since I’m running the Blog Inspiration program, I thought I should take part in it too!

When Leah Squire contacted me about her new book, Marketing with No Money, the title grabbed my attention right away. I know that most business mums don’t have a lot of money to spend on marketing and are always on the look out for marketing ideas, especially ones that don’t cost any money. After reading the review copy, I knew it would be a must have in the Business Mums Guides shop.

Marketing with No Money is a great book. It is easy to read and you can either read it cover to cover, or just read the chapters with the ideas that interest you. It is also relevant if you are just starting out or are further along in your business and you need some fresh ideas.

You can buy Marketing with No Money from the Business Mums Guides shop for only $24.95 plus postage.

Handmade is never out of fashion

Posted by: Business Mums | Comments (1)

Over at Cherry Mag, I came across a great post about handmade gifts. Seriously, you’ve got to love a post that gives you the recipe for home made Irish Cream you can make and give as a gift.

I love hand made gifts, and making things to decorate my home is always satisfying. Most recently I’ve been doing a lot of cross stitch bought from The Needlework Boutique. I have also started making my own jewellery and greeting cards. I have also been encouraging my kids to make their own cards and gifts.

Handmade gifts always seem to go down well, and if you don’t have the skills or time to make things yourself, then there are plenty of business mums who make gifts.

Some business mums members you may want to check out are:

There are many more, but the boys are calling (it’s the middle of the school holidays in Victoria). For more business mums with handmade products, check out our directory at www.businessmums.com/directory

Marketing Monday - Pamper inserts

Posted by: Business Mums | Comments (1)

Marketing MondayYou’ve probably heard about our Pamper Your Business day we are having in a couple of weeks (if you’re in Melbourne, there are still some tickets available). Part of this day is goodie bags - each participant will get one and we want all the inserts to have a pamper theme.

When I mentioned this on the Business Mums Network forums, most people said they couldn’t take part because they didn’t sell pamper products, so I opened up the challenge to think how they can promote themselves with a pampering theme.

Some ideas I have come up with so far are:

  • For a virtual assistants, use the angle that having a VA will give you more time for pampering
  • For people with promotional products, their clients can pamper their clients with special gifts
  • For people who sell baby and kids products, pampering the kids can also pamper the Mum

There are other ideas on the forums, and I’m sure you can think of some ideas of your own. If you’re planning to attend the Pamper Your Business day, you can include some promotional items in our bags free. If you can’t make it, it doesn’t cost much ;)

If you have some ideas for how different businesses can promote themselves with a pampering theme, please share them here. We will send the best answer one of our pampering goodie bags after the event.

Pamper Your Business

Pamper Your Business

Too often, Mums spend all their time an energy running around after their kids, partner, business and everyone else, and don’t take the time to pamper themselves.

With this in mind, we have decided to run a Pamper Your Business day on Saturday October 10 in Melbourne.

Not only will you hear 4 great speakers with tips on growing and pampering your business, but you will also have the opportunity to be pampered yourself! We have invited along some great companies who will pamper you during the breaks.

Come along to this amazing event. It’s only $99 for Business Mums Network members or $199 for non members. This includes 4 workshops, lunch, morning and afternoon tea, door prizes, pampering, and great networking with other Mums & women in business.

For full details and timetable, click here.

To book, click here.

I look forward to seeing you there.
