Friday Five - Craft & Hobbies

Posted by: Business Mums | Comments (0)

Friday FiveIt’s been a while since I’ve done a Friday Five promoting some business mums, so I thought I’d do that today. All these businesses are listed in the Business Mums Directory.

As business mums, it is important that we take time out for ourselves. Having a hobby is a great way to relax and unwind, and take time out. Whatever your hobby is, it must be something you enjoy or are interested in.

Here are 5 businesses that sell craft and hobby items.

  1. Crafty Mamas - not only do they have an online shop that sells a range of patterns and craft supplies, they also have an active community where you can connect with other Mums who love love all things craft.
  2. Craft Candy - if you love scrapbooking, this is a great site to visit. This is another site that has a message board where you can connect with others who love scrapbooking, as well as having a range of scrapbooking supplies.
  3. Dreamit-Createit - this is another paper craft site that has an online shop with supplies. They also have some fantastic project ideas for card making, scrapbooking, and other projects. These are available free, so if you are looking for a project, check them out.
  4. Scrapbook Supplies Online - another scrapbook supplies provider. This site has a wide range of products and you can shop either by type or by brand. They also pride themselves on low prices and fast delivery.
  5. The Needlework Boutique - for a change in theme, if you are in to needlework then this is the site to visit. They have a wide range of charts and threads as well as an annual stitching retreat.

I hope you find these suppliers useful and can take some time out to look after yourself and do a hobby you enjoy.

Marketing Monday - Lucky Letters

Posted by: Business Mums | Comments (0)

Marketing MondayLast week I spotted a fantastic promotion - it’s on now so you can still get involved. Natty Jane Designs is having a “Lucky Letter” Countdown promotion.

Basically, over the course of 26 days, they will announce a random letter and if your business name or name starts with that letter, you are eligible for a special offer that is available for that day only.

You can read more about this promotion here.

This is a fantastic promotion and one that will get people joining their Facebook business page and visiting their website to see if their letter is called out that morning. It is also a fun way to attract new clients as people who have been thinking about using their services can try them out when their day comes up.

I’m sure this promotion will work out well and I look forward to reading the results on their blog.

Friday FiveMother’s Day is coming up in a few weeks, and mother’s everywhere are bracing themselves for cold, burned toast and too-sweet coffee in bed.

To make up for a less than ideal breakfast in bed, I thought I’d start sharing some great places where you can buy Mother’s Day Gifts.

  1. Annette Piper Jewellery - This is a site I drool over. In her blog posts, she includes photos of her jewellery. All items are hand crafted and you are sure to find something you like.
  2. Recipe Blocks - Save your Mum time and money with this amazing cooking system from Mums on a Mission. Their yummy recipes will have you (and/or your Mum) cooking delicious meals in a fraction of the time.
  3. Leaf Journals - For something a bit different, the story starters from Leaf Journals make a unique gift for Mum (or for yourself). There are a range of topics from Christmas to Girls Only and they help to create fun conversation around the dinner table.
  4. Herbology at Home - If you or Mum is interested in herbs, then the new book from Herbology would make a perfect gift. It has tips and recipes for creating herbal remedies at home.
  5. Your Cheeky Monkey - It may seem odd that I’m recommending a baby shop for a Mother’s Day gift, but check out their recycled jeans bags. I have one and so does my sister. They are a great size & fit a lot in it, especially if you find yourself carrying around stuff for the kids.

There are a few ideas for Mother’s Day gifts. I’ll share some more next week.

If you have any suggestions, please add them as a comment so we can all get some ideas.

Marketing MondayThere have been a number of promotion ideas I have posted about lately, including TEEs Me! Please, where you can buy a day to promote your business.

At the start of this year, we started the Business Mums Daily. This is a daily site, blog and Facebook fanpage that we promote on weekdays, excluding public holidays.

You can buy a day to be featured. You get a write up about your site, blog or fanpage, or you can provide the text yourself. It is then featured on our home page and the Business Mums Daily page on Facebook. The number of fans are growing and we are getting a band of loyal followers who visit the page regularly and check out the site, blog and fanpage we have featured for the day.

It doesn’t cost much to be featured, only $25 and your site, blog or fanpage remains on our site for 12 months.

Fanpage Fun - F.B.G.S

Posted by: Business Mums | Comments (0)

I discovered a new widget on Facebook today while writing a Friday Five report. So, just for fun, I thought I’d blog about some of the fan pages I’ve joined & add a fan button so you can follow them too.

The first one is a relatively new page called F.B.G.S, which stands for Facebook Garage Sale. Many WAHMs use their fan pages to have sales for their fans, this page brings all those sales together so you can get yourself a bargain. There have been quite a few garage sales so far, and they look great (pity I don’t need any baby items at the moment). I’m sure this page will take off as more people jump on the Facebook garage sale wagon and more and more products will be offered.

Saturday Site - Swap It Baby

Posted by: Business Mums | Comments (2)

Swap It BabySwapItBaby is an Australian site where parents can swap baby & kids clothes, books, DVDs, toys, and much more. This is a brilliant idea, and one I wish was around when I was pregnant as you can also swap maternity wear.

The site works on a points system where you get points for various activities and then “spend” them on items. You can get extra points by referring people to the site as well as purchasing credits through PayPal. One credit is one Australian dollar.

The registration process is very easy - while I was writing this post I registered - and there are some fantastic items on offer. If you don’t have a baby, it doesn’t matter. There is also a great range of kids toys and clothes listed.

For details, go to www.swapitbaby.com.au - when you sign up, don’t forget to put my name (Melissa Khalinsky) as the person who reffered you :) You can also join their Facebook Fanpage to get updates on what is happening on the site, new products listed and connect with other members.

Saturday Site - Hire for Baby

Posted by: Business Mums | Comments (0)

Hire For BabyWith the summer holidays here, many people are going travelling. Some to visit relatives, others just to get away from it all.

Hire for Baby is a fantastic business, with franchisees in every state of Australia, hiring out baby equipment. This includes car seats, cradles, activity toys, high chairs, prams, and much, much more. When my kids were small, we hired a baby capsule & exersaucer from them. It saved us money in buying the equipment up front, then we didn’t have to worry about storage when the boys grew out of them.

If you are going away and need a car seat, port-a-cot or any other baby products, save yourself the hassle of taking it all with you and hire it instead.

Saturday Site - Leaf Journals

Posted by: Business Mums | Comments (0)

Leaf JournalsLast week, we had the pleasure of trying out the new Christmas Story Starters from Cath Connell of Leaf Journals. These were brand new - Cath had only picked them up from the printers 2 days before our dinner!

The story starters made a fantastic activity. Each of us was given 2 cards - one was a story prompt and the other had a Christmas theme. As the dinner was a business one, the story starters helped us get to know people in a different way and made for much laughter as we shared our stories.

The Christmas Story Starters can be used in many different settings, from family gatherings to business functions and are a wonderful way to break the ice.

The Christmas Story Starters are the first product from Leaf Journals, and I look forward to seeing what they come up with next.

Saturday Site - Kids in Australia

Posted by: Business Mums | Comments (0)

Kids in AustraliaKids in Australia is a new parenting resource for Australian parents. It features a directory of family related businesses, as well as kids and parents activities.

One of the features I love is their “Kids Eat Free” register. Families register for a Kids Eat Free card and businesses promote themselves by offering a free kids meal with an adult meal. In these times when we are all tightening our belts, this is something all parents should check out.

Advertising on Kids in Australia is very reasonable, and you should be able to find an option to suit your budget.

While you are there, don’t forget to check out their latest competitions. There are some fantastic prizes on offer.
