Victorian Bushfires
Posted by: | CommentsI’m sure everyone has seen the news during the last week about the Victorian Bushfires. The whole state is in shock about it all, even I’ve been surprised about how it has affected my family - and we’re in Melbourne!
Thank you to everyone who sent me emails and phoned asking if we are OK - I’m in the SE Suburbs of Melbourne, well away from the fires. There have been a number of my clients in fire affected areas and from what I can find out, they are all OK too.
If you want to do something to help, donate blood or donate money to the Red Cross or Salvation Army.
Marketing Monday - What’s the point?
Posted by: | CommentsAfter a recent discussion on one of the message boards I’m on, I thought I’d discuss the aim of your marketing. For most people, getting a sale right away may be the only result of your marketing, however there are other possible outcomes for you, including:
- getting sign ups to your newsletter
- extra traffic
- raise awareness of your business
- remind current and potential customers you exist
- getting sales
- getting quotes on your blog
These are just a few things that can result from your marketing.
So, when planning any marketing campaign, look at it closely and work out what the point of your marketing is.
Marketing Monday - Track your results
Posted by: | CommentsThis may seem like an odd marketing technique, however it is a very important one. With any marketing you do, you should always track your results.
With a website, your stats should tell you where your traffic comes from. If you are able, set up referral links that are unique to a website so you can track sales too. If you have an online shop, ask your web developer about this. I know with the Business Mums Magazine site, I can set up “affiliate” links to track any sales. I just use these for tracking and not for a traditional affiliate program.
Whenever someone contacts you ask “Where did you hear about us?”. This has a number of benefits - you can find out what advertising is working for you, and you may even find some places you are listed that you didn’t even know about!
By tracking your results, you can work out where to spend your marketing dollars, and which places to let go, allowing you to be smarter with your marketing.
